Reflections from the LGPro Conference

Last week Cube attended the annual LGPro Conference, the accompanying gala dinner and the Awards for Excellence. We were part of many innovative conversations, and it has inspired us to share some of our conference reflections.  If you are currently working in or with a local council in Victoria, we’d enjoy continuing the conversation.

The conference

At the LGPro conference, we met and listened to many regional, metropolitan and interface council representatives. The public value role of local government was a strong focus, with conference keynote speaker Barry Quirk describing a purpose of local government as making a place better to live, and grow. The conference also explored how local governments can navigate shared challenges to achieve public value outcomes.

Since the conference we’ve been thinking about the range of external pressures that local government face, the challenges they present and some strategies that could be explored. The diagram below brings these together in a framework designed to continue and build on the conference conversations we were part of.
