Amplifying Blue Light Victoria’s positive impact through Good Things

A strategic transition for an inspiring non-profit organisation.

Together for good – the client challenge

Blue Light Victoria is an independent, non-profit organisation that started in the 1970’s, first as drug and alcohol-free discos run by Victoria Police in outer eastern Melbourne. Since then, the organisation has become more than just discos and has developed into a range of youth programs aimed to inspire, engage and equip young people with skills to fulfil their potential. These include school-based programs, fitness, personal development and creative arts programs, and adventure challenges, each developed with the support of an array of partners and community stakeholders.

With the welcoming of several new Board members early in 2022, the organisation recognised a desire to be savvier and more practical with how and where it directs its attention and resources and looked to reset its strategic direction.

Bringing the right thinking and people to the table

The organisation called on Cube Group’s expertise to guide strategic conversations with the newly expanded Board to determine a clear set of priorities for the future. Through Good Things, Cube’s pro bono program, our team were thrilled to offer our skills and experience.

Working with the Board over a series of workshop sessions, we facilitated discussions to:

  • Determine strategic directions for the next two years,
  • Explore pathways for Blue Light Victoria’s financial future,
  • Define critical actions in the short term to create an exciting future for Blue Light Victoria.

We know there is so much more value and longevity in actions developed by those who play an active role in their delivery. So, we designed a workshop approach that encouraged Board members to share their unique perspectives and allowed space for considered, open discussion on what is most important. Coupled with our expertise in facilitating engaging and productive workshops, this approach empowered the group to create forward-focused actions to bring the organisation’s new strategic direction to life.

“We benefited greatly from the support of Cube throughout the development of our strategic plan. The team were well organised and prepared, listened and tailored approaches accordingly and offered fabulous suggestions. It was a fantastic experience and so beneficial for the future of Blue Light Victoria.”

The positive change we delivered

Together, Cube and BLV identified critical activities for the Board, executives, and BLV employees to action over the coming three, six and twelve months to bring BLV’s strategic direction to life. Establishing the priorities and what order to address them will help guide BLV through successful implementation of their strategic plan in the short to medium term while also setting the organisation up for long-term success.

As well as having a way to track the organisation’s strategic progress, this robust list of priorities will also support BLV to amplify its positive impact on the lives of young Victorians.

Cube is committed to supporting organisations whose mission aligns with our values and believes in creating positive outcomes for everyone. Good Things bring our team’s knowledge and expertise to purpose-led organisations that don’t have the means to access such skills in other ways. The program enables Cube to deepen our commitment to making a difference where it matters. To find out more about our Good Things program please click here
