About Michael

Combining an eye for detail, a creative approach and a curious mindset, Michael is driven to make positive change for all Australians.

Leading our Evaluation and Review practice, Michael’s diverse experience includes executive positions leading policy, program and resource allocation and reform functions in the Victorian Government and leading national NFP and private practice evaluation and review teams.

Michael also brings 10 years of leadership experience in a diverse range of consulting practices including a big four consulting firm, an Aboriginal owned and led consulting business as well as Cube Group.

Michael has deep experience working with diverse stakeholders to lead, implement, monitor and evaluate programs and reforms in health, mental health, human services early childhood, education and justice portfolio areas.

Prior to joining Cube Group, Michael led the strategy, evaluation and government relations functions for headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation.

Michael is currently a non-executive director of the Parenting Research Centre.

Having focused his entire career on having impact, making a difference and using evidence and collaboration to drive outcomes for individuals and communities, Cube Group provides Michael with a perfect opportunity to continue this important work.

Michael’s recent work includes:
Evaluation and review
  • Evaluating a national telephone and web-based service for women, parents and carers and recommending a range of potential improvements to the service to increase its reach and effectiveness.
  • Leading a multi-method evaluation of the Intensive Community Treatment (ICT) Program for Older Adults comprising desktop review, and extensive consultation with the sector.
  • Undertaking an independent evaluation of the I CAN Network expansion program
  • Developing an evaluation capability building framework for implementation by a medium sized public sector agency
  • Developing and leading a large program of strengths-based reviews of grants to service delivery organisations using a first of kind evaluation methodology
  • Conducting comprehensive and compelling lapsing program evaluations for a broad range of portfolio areas including health, human services, education, skills and the creative industries
  • Developing an evaluation framework for secondary school scholarships programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students.
Collaboration and cross-sector problem solving
  • Supporting a major health, education, and NGO partnership to successfully bid for the adult and older adult consortia of the Victorian Collaborative Centre for Mental Health & Wellbeing (the Collaborative Centre)

  • Brokering a memorandum of understanding between government, mental health services, academics and consumers and carers with lived experience of mental ill health to work together collaboratively to implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System and improve outcomes.

  • Facilitating a collaborative process between academics, service delivery organisations and consumers and carers with lived experience of the child and family mental health system to develop a collaborative approach to improving outcomes for children and infants experiencing mental ill health.

System transformation
  • Developing journey maps of an inclusion system that provides supports for children with additional needs to demonstrate the challenges with the current system and inform the design of a new system that better supports children, families and services. 

  • Supporting hundreds of early childhood services across Australia to transition to a new funding model and make improvements to business operations to ensure their ongoing viability.
